Pumpkin Carving for Halloween

Pumpkin Carving for Halloween

Spooky season is just around the corner and it’s time to get carving! Pumpkins are naturally gluten free and there are a variety of low FODMAP options too, like Jap pumpkin for our IBS family!

Below is a guide to carve a pumpkin and scare all the trick or treaters on the block. All you need is a pumpkin of your choice, a knife, newspaper, a large spoon, a permanent marker, a bowl, a lighter, and a candle. Happy carving!

  1. Cover your work surface with some newspaper to keep things from getting messy.
  2. Cut out the stem by cutting into the top of your pumpkin, making sure the hole is wide enough to fit a hand through. Cut on a 45-degree angle and make sure to keep the stem for later.
  3. Scoop out the pumpkin with the spoon, making sure to get all the seeds and pulp. Empty contents into the bowl.
  4. Use your marker to draw a scary looking face on the outside of the pumpkin.
  5. Cut around the marker lines with the knife to carve out the face.
  6. Light the candle and place inside the pumpkin. Put the stem back on the head and voila!
